Introduction

First of all, some words on me and my relation to the Institute.

I've been a member of the IEEE for many years now. I'm currently member of the IEEE Computer Society and the IEEE Signal Processing Society, and I'm getting involved more and more every year (trying to, at least :-) ).

Starting October 1997, I am the Student Branch Counselor at ETSIT-UPM in Madrid. This is the reason I've opened this new web section in my site. From now on, I hope to offer the ETSIT-UPM-Madrid students and the IEEE community in general a small window to us and our activities.

Additionally, I am a member of the IEEE R8 Students Activities Committee (IEEE R8 SAC), in charge of coordinating awards and recognition (formal title is IEEE Region 8 SAC Coordinator, Awards and Recognition)

The Student members in our branch are working in their own web space, so that I won't interfere repeating the same contents. I will simply offer appropiate links to outstanding information, activities and projects related to them. Till they have their own site ready, I will supply some information that will be available there.

This pages are in really early beta stage, so do not expect too much. I hope to get some feedback from all of you to make them better.

If you need any additional information, please, do not hesitate to contact me.

General links

In this section I will try to offer quick links to the most relevant web sites, in which respect to IEEE and our student branch.

Student membership information

I'm including all kind of information related to student membership.

Student membership benefits

I'm starting a survey on this topic. Of course, it's not that it's difficult to find benefits :-), it's just that I've found so many that great care is to be taken to explain them in the proper order, with the proper words.

Meanwhile, just a couple of sentences on this topic:

IEEE Membership Is Your Key to Success

IEEE Membership Is Part Of Being A Professional

Student membership information

I've included this section to inform you on how to become a student member and the state of the student membership applications.

Additional information will be found in the student branch site, but meanwhile, I'll offer it here.

You all should already know that you may apply through the web to become a student member. Here is how it works (complete informacion can be found at the IEEE Student Activities Information and Services page):

  • Here is how it works. Students apply through the web, accesing the IEEE Student Member Application System page
  • They get a reference number.
  • They can track their application through the web as wel, at any time, by using the reference number assigned to your student application on the web at the IEEE Student Member Application Status page.
  • The Branch Counselor accesses the application over the web and approves it over the web.
  • IEEE Staff in New Jersey retrieve approved applications electronically.
  • Student Branches can access information about the applications as well.

  • Students mail in their payment along with a submission receipt that they print out from the web site. You can fax this if you are paying with credit card.
  • In our student branch, we hold a credit card for students to use it to do the payment. Contact our student branch president to get additional information on this topic.

Received applications

This is the list of student application I've already received by e-mail. I'm processing them ASAP. Remember you can check the status of applications at any time by using the reference number assigned to your student application on the web at the IEEE Student Member Application Status page.

If you don't find your name neither below nor in the next section, and you have already submitted you application more than three days ago, please drop me a note.

Approved applications

Here you will find the list of student applications I've already approved.

Remember you can check the status of applications at any time by using the reference number assigned to your student application on the web at the IEEE Student Member Application Status page.

If you don't find your name neither below nor in the previous section, and you have already submitted you application more than three days ago, please drop me a note.

IEEE Region 8 Undergraduate Student Paper Contest

As every year, the IEEE Region 8 organizes a Student Paper Contest.

Each Branch should hold its local paper contest at any time before the submission deadline to the Regional Contest. The winners of the local contests are eligible for submission to the regional contest.

Rules can be fond in the IEEE Region 8 SAC Chairman page.

The deadline for regional contest submission is 15 December every year.

The best five or six papers will be invited to the oral finals. The travel costs of the finalists will be covered by IEEE Region.

You can find additional information in the Student Branch Awards page.

IEEE Region 8 Student Branch Grants

As every year, the IEEE Region 8 allocates funds for financial support to the student activities in the region.

If you belong to our Branch (ETSIT-UPM-Madrid) and have plans for some activities, and if you need some additional funds to make it happen, you should get in touch with me, and well sort out how to do it.
